ALAN EWER
Construction is in Alan Ewer’s DNA. Growing up in a building family on the NSW south coast, Alan’s passion and expertise was honed from an early age in his father’s carpentry business. He proved a remarkable pupil. After finishing school Alan completed his carpentry and joinery apprenticeship with Distinction, topping the year in every stage of the course. He was Carpentry and Joinery Apprentice of the Year, NSW Apprentice of the Year, and National Building Apprentice of the Year. After completing his apprenticeship Alan went on to finish in the top three in NSW in the Advanced Certificate in Building Supervision. He was given his first site management role as a third year apprentice with Chris Lowe Constructions.
In the early 1990s, Alan traded the coast for the capital and started his own business in Canberra, initially sub-contracting to building companies for their carpentry work and managing a 12-unit build in Ainslie for Chris Lowe again,
That was 20 years ago and since then Ewer Constructions has completed more than 100 diverse construction projects across Canberra, from the first stage of Bass gardens in Griffith, to a chapel and library in Yarralumla for the Jesuits, and new houses, extensions and renovations for a range of architects and clients.
Alan’s only regret in a lifetime of building is that he didn’t take photographs and catalogue all the “truly fantastic” projects he has enjoyed delivering.
